Okay, so I'm kind of very weird. I woke up a couple days ago convinced that "The Emperor's New Groove" (2000) and "Iron Man" (2008) are telling the same story with the same characters (barring an oddball or conflation). Spoilers for both films and a fair number of pictures follow the cut.
The vain, charismatic, self-centered boss:
Emperor Kuzco = Tony Stark
He's got a good thing going. He is, in fact, on top of the world. The top cat, the big cheese, he's what it's all about. Kuzco is the emperor! Tony is the big name in weapons and an international celebrity. All appears to be going well. Unfortunately, his clever second in command is tired of being the power behind the younger glamour-boy.
Yzma = Obadiah Stane
Tired of maintaining the subservient mask and afraid that their boss will try to take their power back, Yzma and Obadiah each...arrange for their employers to be taken out of the picture. Yzma attempts to have Kuzco poisoned (but accidentally turns him into a llama through her subordinate's incompetence), while Obadiah sells Tony to terrorists.
Kronk('s shoulder devil) = Ten Rings terrorists
These guys are pretty much dupes, but nonetheless perfectly willing to do terrible things to the protagonist. (Kronk's more clueless than malicious, but with the shoulder devil and Yzma in charge, counts as a major antagonistic force.) Anyway, these guys seriously limit Kuzco and Tony's power.
Llama!Kuzco = Car Battery!Tony
Kuzco is a llama, which means that no one will take him seriously (DEMON LLAMA!) and Tony ends up with a chunk of machinery powered by a car battery keeping shrapnel from entering his heart and tearing it to pieces. Kuzco's stranded out in the countryside, Tony's trapped in a cave in Afghanistan. However, as both men realize , they're limited but not powerless. They both realize that they've overestimated their control over their own worlds. (Tony's quicker, because let's be honest, he's definitely smarter). With some help and a hefty dose of humility, they've still got a chance.
Pacha = Doctor Yinsen
Despite the fact that both of them have suffered damage indirectly at the main character's hands (Kuzco planned to turn Pacha's land into a summer getaway for himself, Tony's weapons armed the terrorists who destroyed Yinsen's hometown), they do their best to help. Pacha's a bit more reluctant, since Kuzco is an ass and flat-out tells him that his help won't change the summer house plans. After trials and travails and a couple costume changes...
...yeahhhh
They get home to confront their treacherous employees, who have taken over completely in their absence. Said employees try to stab them in the front, this time.
Eeeegh.
Then, when that fails, they get a costume change of their own and play "only one of us walks away".
It looks like they're winning.
Buuut, nope. Our Heroes (tm) emerge victorious and do their best to clean up their acts and spread some goodwill and awesomeness throughout the world.
Well, sort of.
Kuzco scales down his summer home and acknowledges that people who are not him are actually important. Tony stops weapon productions immediately and starts working on destroying Stark weapons caches already in unsavory hands. And also, occasionally starts treating other people like they're actually important.
While Kuzco spends more time on his "I am not the sole center of the universe" journey and Tony more on the "how do I fix it" conclusion, they're both basically the same story. Ego-centric, overconfident dude, after subordinate's betrayal, makes the journey and becomes a better person. It's a pretty good story.
