aggybird had an annoying day, so I made fic for her. There is a goblin, an elf and assorted classmates, and a were-yorkie.
The goblin looked over the top of his spectacles down his looong nose, down the looong expanse of the lectern at the elf who had apparently decided that his conversation was more important than the Biomanipulation lecture by the head of the Transfigurations department. Flicking one greeny-grey finger sharply, Professor Exulan sent a blast of swirling puce sparks into the silly student's desk. The desk bucked sharply, making the elf squeal in panic and jerk away so quickly that his chair went over backward, toppling him onto the floor. His head hit with a not-entirely-surprising hollow-sounding 'clonk.'
"Now. If I may continue..." Exulan trailed the sentence delicately into the air. The rest of the class had their mouths clamped shut and eyes wide-open, except for the naga's. The nictating membranes were flicking back and forth over his eyes so quickly they'd probably sound like a 100 wpm typist up close. Dry eyes; sure sign of nerves. "Very good." He returned to explaining the theory of molecular shift within a still-living body.
Exulan still felt warm and tingly inside at the end of the day. Practical examples on the first day of class always made the rest of the semester go so smoothly. The best part was, every other class he was teaching would have heard about the incident before the day was out. Not for nothing was Exulan one of the most celebrated professors of the scientific application of power that Exeret had seen in twenty years. His classroom manner was legendary and he always enjoyed adding to the legend. Packing his valise efficiently, he stowed it, his umbrella, and the dragon steaks Medes had asked him to bring home for dinner in the basket on the back of his cycle. With one quick click of the fingers, he set the mini-turbine inside spinning and cycled toward home.
Medes was waiting just inside the front door, drowsing on the mat in a little silky-furry ball, ears twitching exactly in time with Exulan's breathing. As soon as he stepped in the door, though, Medes was awake, bounding up in the air and Shifting all at once to pounce. Medes was...not light in his second form. Exulan staggered back against the door frame, grateful for the protection his spinal scales offered, and dropped valise, umbrella, and meat as his arms automatically came up to clutch his lover.
A few muffled noises later, Exulan managed to shift Medes' mouth off his far enough to catch a breath. "Good afternoon, puppy. Now let me in, let me put dinner in the fridge, and let me take off my coat."
Medes grinned. "And let you breathe, O Light of Wisdom?"
"That too."
