Election results.
Well, I'm somewhere between pleased and appalled at the results of yesterday's elections. I'm thrilled that Jon Tester won Montana over Conrad Burns. Unfortunately, yesterday, seven out of eight states voted to uphold that blasted marriage amendment. That is extremely depressing. Not only has the majority proven yet again that United States citizens can be closed-minded and bigoted, many people did not realize the implications that it had for hetero couples in civil unions, common-law marriages, and domestic partnerships--namely, a mighty kick-in-the-arse for what few legal rights they had before. The legal recognition of same-sex civil marriage is no threat to the church's sacrament of holy matrimony, and no one is suggesting legislating that to be so! That would definitely violate the spirit of separation of church and state. However, denying same-sex couples the right to marriage within the purview of state and legal system based on that same principle is also unjust and short-sighted.
