Randomness (Ballet)
I do not dance. I haven't the patience for it and my memory for movement is nigh on abysmal, as demonstrated in my musical theater experiences wherein I was called upon to memorize (god help me) tap moves. Generally, I just sort of arranged to be at the back and focused on my singing, which is quite good. The closest I ever got to learning ballet was in reading about it and deciding that I was not a masochist and thus would not ever be trying that, thanks. Regardless, I am quite fond of watching ballet and I check performance videos out from the library occasionally. Recently, I watched the Paris Ballet's performance of "Jewels," which was pretty much awesome. Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond are visually and audibly so very different, it's interesting to see the dancers bring them together into a whole. My favorite to date remains a performance of "Le Chat Botte" -- "Puss in Boots." It has what may be the sexiest male interaction onstage in classical theater. There's a balletic, extremely athletic duet between the men dancing the cat and the miller's son that makes me all happy and giggly. Much more intense than the miller's son's interaction with the princess, or even the battle with the ogre, though that had some cool set tricks. I still need to locate a good video of Swan Lake, because I know that Odette's solo is one of the most famous dance pieces around.
